Acne

Acne is a very common skin condition which can be caused by hormonal imbalance during puberty or due to medication causing hormonal changes. It can present as black/whiteheads, red spots (papules, pustules) or large cysts.

Increased male hormone (androgen) can lead to increased oil (sebum) production and over proliferation of skin cells which can clog up to hair follicles and make it more prone to overgrowth of bacteria on our skin (C.acne) and inflammation.

Rosacea

Rosacea can look similar to acne as it can cause red spots but it has different causes to acne with broken skin barrier function, increased mite and blood vessel abnormality, making the skin become sensitive.

It can also present with facial redness and flushing, triggered by alcohol, stress, hot drinks, spicy food or temperature changes.
