Acne is a skin condition with pimples, blackheads, and whiteheads caused by excess oil production and clogged pores, while rosacea is a chronic facial disorder characterised by redness, visible blood vessels, and occasional acne-like bumps triggered by various factorsBook a consultation
Acne is a very common skin condition which can be caused by hormonal imbalance during puberty or due to medication causing hormonal changes. It can present as black/whiteheads, red spots (papules, pustules) or large cysts.
Increased male hormone (androgen) can lead to increased oil (sebum) production and over proliferation of skin cells which can clog up to hair follicles and make it more prone to overgrowth of bacteria on our skin (C.acne) and inflammation.
Rosacea can look similar to acne as it can cause red spots but it has different causes to acne with broken skin barrier function, increased mite and blood vessel abnormality, making the skin become sensitive.
It can also present with facial redness and flushing, triggered by alcohol, stress, hot drinks, spicy food or temperature changes.
Acne/Rosacea Programme has been designed for patients with active spots and marks to address the underlying cause in holistic approach.
To have long-term success in managing spots, we need to control skin cell overgrowth, increased sebum production and bacteria causing inflammation called C. acne.
Programmes to address active spots as well as blemishes left behind from active spots are available and the suitability of these programme is discussed during the consultation depending on the severity and any contraindication.
